Yahoo Sees Mobile Image Ads
As the technology of the mobile phone industry continues evolve, the ability to display rich, graphical ads improves as well. In fact, when you consider just how powerful mobile phones are in the present tense, it comes with little surprise to learn the bigger marketing companies will be serving these ads to the mobile community.
Yahoo, the second largest search advertising company, has announced they have begun beta testing a graphically rich mobile advertising program. Ads from this service are expected to begin showing up later this week. CNet’s article has more details:
First off, the graphically rich ads will measure 150×21 pixels and will appear at the top of the browser window. Recipients will be able to click these ads and will be taken to a “further information” page where they can learn more about what it is they clicked on. Telephone contact information is supposed to be available as well. This will, of course, allow the potential consumer an opportunity to contact the advertiser.
As for the pending success or failure of mobile advertising, which is still in its infancy, obviously this depends on the mobile audience and their tendency to respond; an unknown as of this writing. However, because of the targeting potential of mobile advertising, it seems companies are willing to pay a premium (more than standard search advertising) to have an opportunity to attract this particular audience.
