My Space For Prisoners ?

MySpace is involved in controversy once again. This time it has to do with 30 inmates on death row in Texas. They have had MySpace pages created for them by friends and family.

The inmates do not have Internet access so they communicate with friends and family through letters, which are then posted on their MySpace page. Their family or friends then return any correspondence sent to their pages to the inmates.

Andy Kahan director of the crime victims office in Houston strongly disagrees with this practice. In an e-mail to MySpace Kahan wrote, “”Is it within your policy to allow the glorification of killers by giving them a platform to influence young minds?” Kahan wrote. “Are there specific guidelines within MySpace that would prohibit giving convicted felons a platform for all the world to see?”

I understand his concern but isn’t this more of a state or federal issue than a MySpace issue? Last time I checked MySpace was not one of the 3 branches of government.

Michelle Lyons, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said,” We cannot police what a person who is not in our custody puts on a Web site on behalf of an inmate”

By calling attention to the issue maybe Mr.Kahan is attempting to lobby support for legislation to prevent prisoner profiles being posted on MySpace. That would be a tricky constitutional issue.

I don’t see MySpace changing their policy. With 125,632,282 million users they would never be able to police that amount of profiles.

There is a simple and effective solution to this problem. Give those who receive the death penalty without DNA evidence to convict them an automatic appeal that must be completed within 30 days in a special court set up for this purpose.

Once a conviction is finalized (DNA) or upheld (appeal), give them an additional 24 hours to make peace with their g/God, family, etc. then execute them.

As a Christian I am totally against the death penalty period. What makes it worse is that these guys are stuck in prisons for years. Our government needs to make up their mind what kind of a sentence is needed. Years in the pen or death. Either way, serve it correctly. Next it has become frustrating at those even making the laws considering we have more politicians going to prison now days then anyone. Our law enforcement is more crooked than the criminal & it amazes me every day to see anther sherriff or another politician heading to jail. These are the ones in charge of the laws. Making choices such as death or life in prison. I think that these men or women placing their stories out there, unless harming others is a good thing. Maybe one kid that reads what the person has to say might be spared from a life of crime & decide to walk the line. I think personally, that is worth allowing them to post. One kid is worth saving in my opinion. I say, God help the ones making the laws, because they need it as baddly as the ones facing death row. At least the ones with DNA testing about to die, we know what they are, these politicians however I am totally sickened by all of them.

As a Christian I am for the death penalty. Scriptures says we can not murder but the State can kill (not murder) those who murder others. Its up to the government to judge and execute not us. Just read the Bible, you will see there is a difference between killing and murder.
