Where’s Alexa?

The popular site-tracking service has been bouncing up and down all weekend. This morning Alexa.com still cannot be reached.

Peter Alguacil at Pingdom said in an email that Alexa has been having problems all weekend. Today the site has been mostly down since 7 am Central European Time. Going there now just returns a 404 result.

Anyone have any observations about this? Is Alexa being hit with a DDoS?

UPDATE 12:47 PM ET: Now Alexa has returned online. Maybe this time it will keep running.

I’ve noticed that it has been spotty for a few weeks and it has been especially bad this weekend. Maybe a major update is in the works?

I’m going to vote for “someone kicked out a patch cable” as the problem. I have no idea why they’re so dodgy lately, and inquiries I’ve made did not indicate anything like a DDoS taking place.
