Disney ready to go Sweeney Todd on YouTube

If YouTube doesn’t get their copyright-violation-finding-thingee running at 110 percent soon, Chad Hurley may be in for a visit from the scariest people outside of the local IRS field office: Disney lawyers.

Mouse House exec Anne Sweeney heads up Disney’s various news TV and entertainment divisions, and she told Reuters that it was time for YouTube to get its act together:

“We’ve had the phone calls, which are when we see clips of our content going up,” Sweeney told the Reuters Media Summit in New York. “We have called and asked (YouTube) to take them (our video programming) down.”

“It’s not efficient and I think there is a larger conversation to be had. But this is the world we are living in. This is the reality,” she said. “It is not the efficient way to deal with it. I think a larger conversation is in order.”

There’s no lawsuit yet, and Sweeney said she doesn’t know if one is in the works. If there is, be very afraid, YouTube. Walt Disney was never all cuddles and smiles in his business dealings during his time, and the legal department has a rep for dirty infighting.
