Flash and the W3C Recommendations is a problem. Why? Although some people with disabilities cannot use images, movies and sounds which made with Flash, they need pages that include equivalent information to the visual or auditory content. See the WCAG 1.0, Checkpoint 1.1.

Aside from that, Flash and Adobe is also a problem for all linux users. Ok, a beta is available, but what do linux users with pages that use Flash higher as version 7? It will not work, not fine.

You're right about the many ways to link to an flv. We use XML here at the WebProNews Video Blog. Perhaps, I wasn't clear in that by "hard linking" I was referring to the options built into Flash's "Import Video" functions (using its GUI) which create an swf with an embedded link. If you're not familiar with non-Flash methods or can't yet deal with Actionscript, you're stuck with that link. For more advanced users such as yourself, creating dynamic loading of flvs with Actionscript, ming, etc. should be a snap. :-) Thanks for the clarification, Jake!

I would simply like to comment that flash is not the only authoring format for swf's. I believe that the term "hard linking" is either misleading or not accurate. Hard Linking is not the only way to link to flv video. You can you link to video though mash ups from external sites such as YouTube and others. You can also use easily load all files in a specified server directory, XML, RSS...
