I don’t think it’ll affect SEO competitions. Usually the competition involves contestants creating at least one page that contains the keyword. Hence, that page is on topic with all the links pointing to it i.e. this breaks the definition of a Googlebomb.

Mark, the reason I asked this question is because if you look at some of the past SEO comps, they were primarily won by the webmaster/SEO who pulled off the best linkbomb and if Google quits counting links that resemble these types of exercises, you would think SEO contests might take a beating… just a thought. Keep me posted on how you do with the contest please.

matt cutts gave the impression this new algo looks for linkbombs only… so hopefully the answer to your question Travis is no.

Does this mean contextual links will be, to some degree, devalued across the board or only when a significant portion of your contextual links contain a given phrase?
