What if Google had to design their website?

Wouldn’t it be nice to see the SEO glass slipper jammed onto Sergey’s and Larry’s feet, and watch them try to make it to midnight?

Someone thought the mighty Google needed to take a look at what they would have to do to make their home page rank well with the Google search engine.

“What if Google had to design their user interface for Google?” asks the MeanGene.com website. It then goes through the steps, using the Google home page as a canvas, of all of the extra content, links, social bookmarking icons, affiliates, and additions of the word “search” to the URL, title, and page content.

It’s painful to see. Also funny.

[…] Google needs SEO to rank in Google! Why? Let me explain. Today everybody wrote about the Google optimization parody “What if Google had to design their user interface for Google?“. It’s both funny and sad that’s why it’s spectacularly successful everywhere on the web. But how true is it? It’s “more” true than you might think! […]

That thing is awesome. Plus it even loaded correctly. Unfortunately alot of that is true so if you tried to design a nice clean website you’d lose out according to what some SEO people say.

By the way! Have you seen a new style of Google, no? It’s awesome and black.

I found that hilarious. As a new hand at web-design and SEO, I find myself feeling like that every day. Seems as though its impossible to design a nice, clean site and have it rank well, which is a shame.
