Guge is Chinese for Google infringement
Trademark legalities over Google’s chosen appellation for its Chinese operation has led to frustration at a company that wants compensation.
Google stumbles over another roadblock in China as a local company has filed suit against them for choosing a similar name to its business. The Mercury News has more:
Beijing Guge Sci-Tech Co. was officially registered at the Beijing Municipal Industrial and Commercial Bureau on April 19, 2006, but Google didn’t register the name “Guge” in China until Nov. 24 of that year, according to court arguments that began in Beijing this week.
Guge Sci-Tech wants Google change its Chinese name and pay legal costs, according to court documents. No specific sum was mentioned.
We’re betting they want more than a couple of yuans to make this go away, but Google has a reputation for fighting lawsuits that may keep Guge Sci-Tech from seeing any coin for a while.
