Yahoo Buzz passes along 50 million referrals

Publishers fortunate enough to be in Yahoo Buzz, and receiving the attention a front page spot on Yahoo can drive, enjoyed some big traffic numbers.

A handful of publishers enjoyed the best benefit of Yahoo Buzz to date, namely the escalated traffic a story placed in the Featured section of Yahoo’s home page, listed as links to Buzzing Now articles. RollingStone.com pulled in 2.4 million pages views for a story on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after its Buzz appearance, in one example.

Yahoo Buzz picked up some updates, the company told us. They made a Top Buzz widget available for embedding on blogs and other sites. Yahoo also added RSS feeds for top Buzz stories overall and by niche, making them easily followed in one’s feedreader of choice.

“Over the past few weeks, we have also begun adding new publishers to the beta program, such as AskMen.com, ThePanelist.com and VentureBeat, and we will continue to do add even more as we gear up for opening Yahoo! Buzz to any publishers who are interested in the future,” Yahoo said.

We’re predicting a lot of competition to be part of Buzz. 2.4 million page views will cause any site publisher selling display ads on a CPM basis to drool uncontrollably.
