The kids are fleeing Facebook
Facebook still has strength among the post-college aged crowd, but those in school may think Facebook isn’t cool any longer.
Measurement firm Compete showed off a comparison of Facebook versus LinkedIn, the latter a social network aimed more at the working world. By age, Facebook owned the audience aged 24-44, though LinkedIn appeared to make some gains there:
In June of 2007, nearly over 35% of Facebook traffic came the 18-24 year old segment, compared to around 22% in June 2008. With the bulk of this traffic shifting towards the 25-35 year old group, this movement could be a result of the site’s original base of college students.
Could be panic mode time for Mark Zuckerberg and company. If the college students go elsewhere, how does Facebook thrive without the most coveted marketing demographic for advertisers?
