Blinkx winks at Miva deal

Video search site blinkx could pull online ad firm Miva into its corporate fold.

Could blinkx and Miva be a little competition to YouTube and Google, when it comes to combining advertising and a voracious appetite for video by web users?

It’s an open secret Google hasn’t figured out the key to the treasure chest when it comes to making mad money with YouTube. Blinkx may think it can do better, as Center Networks noted the proposal made by blinkx to Miva:

blinkx has worked a variety of distribution deals this year — all to help increase the market share for their video search. Miva is best known for their in-content ads. These are the ads that usually have double-underlines and when you mouse over them a small ad pops up over the word(s).

If Miva makes the deal happen, it would be worth about $41 million to them. Blinkx listed several reasons for Miva to do so, with PaidContent listing some as “new technology costs, ‘deteriorating cash position’, deterioration of (Miva’s) Media EU business and ‘continued decline in revenue and profitability’.”

Bonus: not related to blinkx/Miva, but we wanted to mention the BBC TV Olympic promo video the network posted, it’s a fun and clever bit of work. It makes the Olympics look like, well, fun.
